Rx Compassion, in collaboration with YWCA White Plains & Central Westchester, is hosting an inaugural convening of mothers, prospective mothers, and community partners to discuss maternal health needs and strategies to help all women have healthier pregnancies and safer childbirth experiences.

JOIN US FOR A MATERNAL HEALTH CONVENING

Recognizing April as Cesarean Awareness Month 

April 19, 2023 8:30 am – 11 am 

Westchester Library Systems  

WHY

• 1 in 3 births result in cesarean delivery. 

• New York has the 12th highest C-section rate in the US. 

• Women with C-sections are 1.7 more likely to die of pregnancy-related causes than those who delivered vaginally. 

• In NY, Black women are 5 times more likely to die of pregnancy-related causes than white women. 

• More than 80% of maternal deaths are preventable.  

WHO 

Women in our Community 

• Learn the risks and benefits of cesarean deliveries. 

• Exchange ideas and stories. 

• Acquire tips and knowledge to have a healthy pregnancy.  

Community Partners and Advocates 

• Learn and discuss cesarean safety. 

• Discuss opportunities to reduce disparities in maternal health outcomes. 

• Identify maternal health needs and support communities of greatest need.

 • Share actionable strategies to provide resources, education, and support for women of childbearing age through partnerships. 

• Establish a framework for ongoing convenings to address challenges and provide education and impactful solutions.  

WHAT 

• View excerpts of the “Prescribing Compassion” documentary, followed by a panel discussion and talkback with Dr. Clarel Antoine, MD, a world-renowned OBGYN, and Founder of Rx Compassion.

About our panelists

Dr. Clarel Antoine, MD

Associate Professor, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, NYU Grossman School of Medicine
Founder & Board Chair, Rx Compassion

Dr. Clarel Antoine is a world-renowned OBGYN who has dedicated over 40 years to improving women’s reproductive health and safer childbirth. Dr. Antoine is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists and the Subspecialty Board in Maternal-Fetal Medicine, and is a Maternal Mortality Review Board member for the New York State Health Department.

Dr. Alicia Robbins, MD

Greenwich Hospital Medical Group

A board-certified OB/GYN practicing in both NY and CT, Dr. Robbins received her Doctor of Medicine from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. She did her residency at Mount Sinai before becoming a full-time faculty associate and receiving the “Outstanding Teaching By Faculty Award” and the “Outstanding Teacher Award.'“

 

Since 2018, she has held an academic appointment at the Greenwich Hospital Medical Group.

Kristen Kaessler

Whole Soul Doula

Kristen Kaessler is a lifelong entrepreneur, dog lover, dancer, yogini, outdoor enthusiast, and former corporate HR participant. She founded her Doula business in June 2020, and completed the master’s Mentee Program at Manhattan Birth in 2022.

 

Kristen is an Integrative Lactation & Feeding Specialist, a member of DONA International, and a Pre/Postnatal Performance Training Specialist via PRONatal Fitness. She loves all things birth/babies, caring for others, and offering genuine support. Kristen works with birthing people who seek additional support before, during, and after the longest marathon of their lives – giving birth.

Chief Diversity Officer and Chief Client Relations Officer at Dorf & Nelson LLP.
